Oficjalny hymn Chelsea powstał w 1972 roku, a pierwszy raz publicznie został odtworzony w tym samym roku podczas finału Pucharu Ligi.
Co ciekawe, "Blue is the color" zadebiutował na liście przebojów UK Singles Chart, na której wdrapał się aż na 5 miejsce. W oryginalnym wykonaniu hymn śpiewali ówcześni piłkarze 'The Blues', ale od chwili powstania piosenka była brana na warsztat również przez innych wykonawców.
